2019 Honda Pilot
Honda’s ever-popular Pilot is back with more awards under its belt, including the Kelley Blue Book Best Buy Award in the midsized SUV category. This spacious family-mover seats seven or eight without sacrificing on style and overall functionality. It comes in five trim levels – LX, EX, EX-L, Touring, and Elite – which all get a 3.5-liter V6 engine that delivers a punch of 280 horsepower and 262 pound-feet of torque. Paired to the engine is a six-speed automatic transmission that comes standard on all trims except for the Touring and Elite, which instead get a nine-speed transmission.
Trims and Mechanical Features
The ‘19 Pilot delivers some impressive standard features for comfort and convenience. Starting with the base LX, the standard features include automatic LED headlights, active noise cancellation, a 60/40-split folding third-row bench seat, and a multi-angle rearview camera. The EX adds LED fog lights, heated exterior mirrors, remote ignition, keyless entry, tri-zone automatic climate control, heated front seats, a power-adjustable driver’s seat, and one-touch slide-and-fold second-row seats. Stepping up to the EX-L, the luxury features become more prominent with the inclusion of a sunroof, a power liftgate, a universal garage door opener, rear-seat window sunshades, an auto-dimming rear-view mirror, leather upholstery, driver’s-seat memory functions, and a power-adjustable front passenger seat. There is also an EX-L subtrim available that adds navigation and rear entertainment systems.
The Touring trim includes everything from above in addition to roof rails, front and rear parking sensors, hands-free operation for the liftgate, and heated rear seats. Finally, at the highest end, the Elite brings heated second-row captain’s chairs, as well as automatic wipers, power folding mirrors, a panoramic sunroof, a heated steering wheel, ventilated front seats, and a wireless charging pad.
Given its reputation as one of the safest vehicles on the market, the ‘19 Pilot makes sure to deliver the most up-to-date safety features available. For each trim level, the Honda Sensing suite of advanced safety features now comes standard. This includes adaptive cruise control, frontal collision warning with automatic braking, road departure mitigation, lane keeping assist, and automatic high-beam assist. The EX adds to these standard features by including a blind-spot monitor with rear-cross traffic alert, while the EX-L, Touring, and Elite trims each bundle together everything from the trims that come before.
Standard technology features are impressive with the ‘19 Pilot. Those who opt for the base LX will be able to enjoy a five-inch touchscreen center console and a seven-speaker audio system with USB and auxiliary inputs, while the EX trim adds to this by including an 8-inch touchscreen system, HondaLink and CabinControl smartphone integration, Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, and SiriusXM satellite radio. The EX-L technology-laden subtrim includes a 10.2-inch entertainment system with HDMI input, a Blu-ray player, various streaming apps, a 110-volt power outlet, and rear headsets that come with an intercom system. The Touring and Elite trims add to this by including a Wi-Fi hotspot and a ten-speaker premium audio system with multi-zone audio functions.
