To simplify the Odyssey lineup for 2023, Honda dropped the base LX, meaning that things kick off with the well-equipped EX and move up with the EX-L, Sport, Touring, and Elite. All versions are front-wheel drive and get the same powertrain: a 3.5-liter V6 (280 horsepower and 262 lb.-ft. of torque) paired with a 10-speed automatic transmission. Honda’s Variable Cylinder Management system uses deactivation technology to maximize fuel economy, which the EPA has estimated at 19 mpg around town and 28 mpg on the highway.
The EX has more elevated features than usual for a base trim, including auto-on/off LED headlights, LED fog lights, rear privacy glass, power-sliding rear doors, Smart Entry (lets you unlock the vehicle by simply touching the door handle with the key fob nearby) with Walk Away Auto Lock, and heated side mirrors with turn-signal indicators. While that covers the exterior features, inside you’ll find push-button start, ambient console lighting, an overhead conversation mirror and sunglasses holder, tri-zone automatic climate control, and manual second-row sunshades. The front seats are heated and power-adjustable, and its Magic Slide second row has a multi-functional center seat that can be adjusted for easier access to the 60/40-split third row.
For infotainment, the EX has an 8-inch touchscreen system with Bluetooth hands-free phone and audio streaming, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, HD radio, satellite radio (SiriusXM), and a seven-speaker sound system. HondaLink remote vehicle services are also provided, plus occupants can use the integrated CabinControl system to manipulate certain vehicle functions from their smartphones. The EX also has a front-console USB charging port and a center-console smartphone/audio interface. There are also two 12-volt power outlets.
The last item of interest is Honda Sensing, the brand’s suite of advanced safety technologies. The version installed in the EX includes forward collision warning, collision mitigation braking, road departure mitigation, lane keeping assist, lane departure warning, adaptive cruise control with low-speed follow, traffic sign recognition, blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert, and automatic high beams.
If you thought the EX was impressive, take a look at what’s provided in the EX-L. On the outside, the upgrades are side mirrors with position memory and reverse gear tilt-down, acoustic windshield glass, a power liftgate, and a moonroof. Its interior showcases an auto-dimming rearview mirror with HomeLink, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, lower second-row seatback pockets, a driver’s seat with two-position memory, front- and outboard second-row leather upholstery, and additional power adjustments for the front passenger’s seat. On top of that, the EX-L gains two second-row USB charging ports and a third-row 12-volt power outlet.
The Sport is equipped like the EX-L, but with body-color exterior accents (as opposed to black like the other trims have), gloss-black side mirrors, black floor mats, and red ambient interior lighting.
The Touring adds some sought-after technology and a few other nice features. Appearance-wise, it retains the Sport’s body-color exterior accents but drops the gloss-black side mirror caps, red interior lighting, and black floor mats. Honda adds a rear Blu-Ray entertainment system with a 10.2-inch display and wireless headphones, an HDMI interface, a third-row USB charging port, a 115-volt front-row power outlet, a headphone-based PA system (aka CabinTalk), and Honda’s proprietary rear-seat monitor, CabinWatch. It also gets third-row sunshades and upper front-row seatback pockets, plus the infotainment system adds integrated navigation, voice recognition, and a Wi-Fi hotspot. Exclusive HondaLink subscription services are offered as well.
The Elite earns its title with a heated steering wheel, a hands-free liftgate, ventilated front seats, rain-sensing wipers, power-folding and auto-dimming side mirrors, full acoustic glass, blue ambient interior lighting, an 11-speaker multi-zone audio system with a subwoofer, and a wireless phone charger. The CabinTalk PA system can also be transmitted through the vehicle’s speaker system instead of just the headphones.
