There’s just one trim package for the 2024 Civic Type R, and it contains everything the thrill-seeking Honda fan could ask for. The star of the show is a powerful 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine. It makes 315 hp and 310 lb.-ft. of torque and forms the powertrain with a six-speed manual transmission with rev-match control. As we pointed out in the introduction, Honda does not offer an automatic transmission for this speedster (and its buyers don’t seem to mind at all). Efficiency goes along with peppiness in this fun-to-drive car, as the EPA has estimated it to achieve 22 mpg in city driving and 28 mpg on the highway.
The Civic Type R is built for performance with a dual-axis front suspension, a multi-link rear suspension, a gloss-black rear spoiler, a center-mounted triple-outlet exhaust an adaptive damper system, Brembo front brake calipers, a limited-slip differential, and performance tires (Michelin Pilot Sport 4S) on 19-inch wheels painted matte-black. It also allows the driver to select from four modes as they see fit: +R, Individual, Sport, and Comfort.
There’s no need to think twice about making the 2024 Honda Civic Type R your daily driver, as it’s packed with amenities for convenience and comfort. The list includes proximity keyless entry, dual-zone automatic climate control, wireless phone charging, push-button ignition, auto on/off LED headlights and taillights, a leather-wrapped steering wheel and aluminum shift knob, sport pedals, red ambient interior lighting, heated side-view mirrors with built-in turn-signal indicators, a USB smartphone/audio interface, a USB-C charge port, and a 12-volt power outlet. This is a limited-run model, and as such each unit displays a numbered plaque inside. All four seats are designed to hold passengers in place through the curves, with grippy suede-like panels; the sport-style front seats feature generous bolsters to cradle the driver and sidekick. Honda also includes a digital gauge cluster that shows performance readouts and diagnostics (the driver can choose what information is displayed) as well as the LogR data recorder, which logs your activity on the track and supplies tailored feedback to help improve lap times and other driving attributes.
The Honda Sensing suite of advanced driver-assistance technologies comes standard on the ’24 Civic Type R, equipping it with adaptive cruise control, automatic high beams, driver attention monitoring, lane keeping assist, forward collision warning, collision mitigation braking, road departure mitigation, lane departure warning, traffic sign recognition, and a blind-spot monitor with rear cross-traffic alert. Its rearview monitor is made deluxe with multiple angles and dynamic gridlines. Vehicle stability assist with traction control comes standard as well, as does a complete array of airbags.
You’ll be connected and entertained in the Civic Type R thanks to its 9-inch touchscreen multimedia system, which can also be controlled using voice recognition. Its main features are wireless smartphone connectivity (Android Auto and Apple CarPlay), satellite-linked navigation, SiriusXM satellite radio, HD Radio, Bluetooth (hands-free phone and audio streaming), a Wi-Fi hotspot, and a Bose sound system with 12 speakers and surround sound.
