2026 Honda Civic Hatchback Hero

The hatchback version of one of North America’s most popular compact cars continues to pair efficiency and practicality with a sporty look and smooth ride quality. With both gas-only and gas-electric powertrains offered, the 2026 Civic Hatchback retains stylistic and mechanical elements from the previous model year but brings improvement with a standard leather-wrapped steering wheel (previously only available in the high-end Sport Touring Hybrid) and red interior ambient lighting for the base trim (Sport).

The Civic Hatchback’s body style gives its owner versatility with 24.5 cubic feet of cargo space – significantly more than its sedan counterpart’s 14.8 cubic-foot trunk. The 200-horsepower hybrid powertrain that the higher trims get boasts a 6.2-second 0-to-60 time, all while achieving up to 50 mpg. This attribute makes it the fastest non-Type R Civic, rivaling its Civic Si cousin. Standard Honda Sensing driver-assist technology, including adaptive cruise control, collision mitigation braking, and traffic jam assist, adds to the Civic Hatchback’s value, while available luxuries like leather seats, a wireless phone charger, and Bose audio offer upscale appeal.

Trims and Powertrains

The 2026 Civic Hatchback offers buyers three trims to choose from: Sport, Sport Hybrid, and Sport Touring Hybrid. The base Sport marries an Atkinson-cycle inline four-cylinder engine to a continuously variable transmission (CVT) with paddle shifters, for an output of 150 horsepower and 133 lb.-ft. of torque. The two hybrid trims pair the Atkinson four-cylinder with two electric motors to get 200 total horsepower and 232 lb.-ft. of torque.

The Sport returns an EPA-estimated 30 mpg city and 38 mpg highway, while the two hybrid trims achieve 50 mpg city and 45 mpg highway. All trims are front-wheel drive and ride on MacPherson front struts and a multi-link rear suspension with a stabilizer bar. The hybrid trims have deceleration selectors and an electro-servo brake, while the Sport Touring Hybrid alone gets wheel resonators. The Sport and Sport Hybrid have three drive settings: Econ, Normal, and Sport, joined by the customizable Individual drive mode on the Sport Touring Hybrid.

Standard Equipment

Besides the aforementioned now-standard leather-wrapped steering wheel, the Sport has remote start, Smart Entry with Walk Away Auto Lock, cloth seating surfaces, manually adjustable front seats, single-zone automatic climate control with rear vents, a 7-inch digital gauge display, push-button ignition, remote hatch release, one-touch turn signal indicators, two USB-C ports, heated power exterior mirrors, LED headlights with automatic on/off, LED daytime running lights, LED brake and taillights, red ambient interior lighting, sport pedals, a capless fuel filler, a black headliner, a 60/40-split folding rear seatback, and 18-inch gloss-black alloy wheels. The Sport Hybrid moves up the luxury scale with heated front seats, a one-touch power-sliding/tilting moonroof, dual-zone automatic climate control, an acoustic-laminated windshield, a rear-seat center armrest with beverage holders, and a passenger-side seatback pocket. The Sport Touring Hybrid is leather-upholstered with an eight-way power-adjustable driver’s seat, a four-way power-adjustable front passenger seat, a 10.2-inch digital instrument cluster, wireless smartphone charging, an auto-dimming rearview mirror, LED turn indicators on the exterior mirrors, a sunglasses holder, and 18-inch alloy wheels with matte Shark Gray inserts.

All trims also get brake assist, hill start assist, a rear seat reminder, and a backup camera with dynamic guidelines. The Sport Touring Hybrid complements the standard safety suite with front and rear parking sensors and low-speed braking control.

Infotainment and Connectivity

The Sport and Sport Hybrid receive a 7-inch infotainment touchscreen with a USB-connected Android Auto and Apple CarPlay interface, Bluetooth HandsFreeLink and audio streaming, and a radio data system. The Sport Touring Hybrid upgrades to a 9-inch touchscreen with Amazon Alexa and Google built-in, wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, and Wi-Fi hotspot capability. The base 180-watt audio system has eight speakers and speed-sensitive volume compensation, while the Sport Touring Hybrid boasts a premium 12-speaker Bose sound system with HD Radio and a subwoofer. Both hybrid trims also come with active noise cancellation.

The Sport and Sport Hybrid come with HondaLink Basic, providing 24-hour roadside assistance, service appointment scheduling, vehicle informational guides, and recall notifications. The Sport Touring Hybrid adds HondaLink’s Link Package, with vehicle health reports and notifications, navigation integration, and dashboard view. This top trim also includes HondaLink’s Remote package, with Amazon Alexa integration, vehicle locator, speed alert, geofencing, and remote controls.
