It was the mid-1980s when the minivan overtook the stodgy but practical station wagon as the quintessential family vehicle. But it took until 1995 for the Odyssey to come along and show the automotive world the right way to do it. That first-ever Odyssey showcased an innovative third-row seat that could be folded into the floor to create a flat cargo space when it wasn’t needed for passengers. While most competitors at the time followed suit, Honda has gone on to mark plenty more proprietary innovations in the Odyssey, such as the CabinTalk vehicle P.A. system, the CabinWatch rear-seat monitor, and the easy-to-use Magic Slide seats. Adventurous families who use a small trailer for recreational purposes will also appreciate the Odyssey’s towing capacity of 3,500 pounds.
For model year 2027, HondaTex simulated leather is now used in the two lowest trims (the two higher trims have leather). Honda has also renamed the Function Package the All-Season Protection Package I and added the All-Season Protection Package II and Protection Package (the Utility Packages have been dropped). Add-ons like the trailer hitch, roof rails, and crossbars can be elected a la carte.
